The traditional design process has been developed, through time, by trial and error, following an evolutive approach. By this procedure, the team focused its attention on only one conceptual alternative at a which is perfected step until expected outcome obtained. Nevertheless nowadays, due to high complexity of ships increasingly stringent operational requirements, approach appears be obsolete in market where cost time reduction fundamental parameter. Indeed, competitive shipbuilding market, very accurate information should available since beginning process, allow 360-degree exploration number alternatives then identify best solution no time. In paper new, rational, necessary raise efficiency effectiveness ship design, presented. using multi-purpose software, authors were able create Virtual Prototype case study with ease little training, obtaining, early-stage phases, some outputs interest (such as longitudinally weight distribution structures, preliminary midship section, GZ curves powering curves) without great computational efforts. most important benefit multipurpose software instead multiple specific ones lies elimination remarking activities for switching from another, reducing loss data’s risks during process.
